How to commit to a successful wellness routine

Why you should commit to a wellness routine

Before you commit to a wellness routine. You may want to know why you need to in the first place. Here are just a few reason why you might benefit from a wellness routine.

A wellness routine encourages constant improvement and growth.

Wellness can be confusing with so much conflicting and general advice. This makes it more difficult to stick the right things that are going to improve your wellbeing.

Committing to a routine results in you sticking to the activities that are right for you. Encouraging you to consistently improve your wellness easily with a daily routine.

You will see progress physically, mentally and emotionally.

Sticking to routine means you practice certain activities. From waking up earlier, fitness or even meditation. Through practise you will see progress and growth in these activities.

This especially applies to an activity like meditation and mindfulness.

Studies show that people obtain the most benefits, such as reduced stress and anxiety, over a period of 8 weeks or more. Therefore, committing to a wellness routine means you will greatly benefit from the activities you choose to pursue.

Finally, wellness is not just about being healthy.

Health and wellness are different things. Being healthy is a state of feeling well and not suffering from illness. Whereas wellness is the active pursuit of enhancing your wellbeing.

Maintaining a wellness routine helps look after both your health, improve your wellbeing and actively live a healthier lifestyle.

How you can Commit to a Wellness Routine

Here are 6 tips so you can commit to your wellness routine.

Set goals

Goals help to keep you motivated and focused on your wellness. Setting goals provides you with something to work towards. Rather than pursuing wellness with no idea why.

When setting your goals, consider your why, what, and how you are going to achieve them. Use SMART goals to lay them out in detail. Giving yourself an appropriate timeline, a way to measure your progress, ensuring there are specific and realistic goals for you.

Now your goals are specified and how you are going to achieve them, they can be added to your daily routine. Ensuring that your goals are specific can help to add them to your daily life.

For example, wanting to start a yoga practice to improve flexibility can be added in your morning routine. Helping to meet your goal as well as improve your energy and mood for the day to come.

Even the smallest of actions can make the biggest difference for your wellness.

Change your mindset

Being able to commit to a wellness routine can come down to the mindset you hold. This might be one of the biggest things you need to do.

If your mindset is negative, doubtful or weak. It is going to be really difficult to suddenly change your daily routine. Falling back into bad habits, giving up on the routine or leaving bits out.

It is something that I constantly need to work on and you might need to too. Staying committed, keeping the promises to yourself and creating a healthy wellbeing is possible with a strong mindset.

It is also not about being positive all the time. Your wellness routine is for positive change but your brain can create resistance.

If you are consciously trying to make a change but subconsciously do not believe in it, you will not be successful. You might need to dive deep into your limiting beliefs and values to truly turn your mindset around.

This is why your mindset needs constant work to be able to commit to a wellness routine.

Accountability

Another super important reason you can fall off the wagon is not holding yourself accountable. Easily done if you feel like a victim of your circumstances.

Feeling as though others can change your entire mood and day. Not feeling in control of your choices or life.

This kind of mindset allows you to give up easily, repeat bad habit cycles and let your wellness get away from you.

You need to change these thoughts, right now.

The only one that can improve your wellness is you. Holding yourself accountable is a powerful tool for staying committed to a wellness routine. Knowing that it is only YOUR actions that directly impact your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Additionally, accountability is what will stop you from giving up or missing bits. You are the only to blame if this does happen. Putting you in the place of control and the creator of your life.

This might be one of the most important aspects that I need to work on myself too. Positioning myself as the creator in the past has massively helped me to commit to my wellness. The same could happen for you when holding yourself accountable.

6 amazing ways to commit to a wellness routine

Prioritise

You may feel as though you do not have enough time to fit everything in. However, are there times where you are browsing social media or watching TV that could be used for your wellness instead?

I am definitely guilty of watching too much TV and it usually does not positively support my wellness. Instead, I can think of ways to use the time more effectively.

This does not mean you have to be on the go all the time either! Sitting or laying outside and doing breathe work can help ground you. Boosting your energy and mental wellbeing.

Committing to a wellness routine can be difficult with other temptations and easier options available. However, your wellness routine is made to look after you and improve your wellbeing. This is your priority.

Additionally, you may have thought up of so many wellness goals you want to achieve. I suggest choosing 4-6 goals to focus on right now. Doing too many things at once can be confusing and overwhelming.

Prioritise your most important goals to add into your wellness routine. Once these actions become habit and goals are achieved, consider adding a few new goals into your daily routine.

Another thing you might need to prioritise more is yourself. It can be easy to let your routine go when you are doing things for other people.

Evaluate each situation on how it will contribute to your wellness and life. It it okay to say no and prioritise yourself for once.

Get used to being uncomfortable

As I mentioned in the previous point, it can be difficult to stick to your routine with other temptations around. This is because our brains are wired to seek pleasure.

Your brain already knows what is pleasurable for you and often these become bad habits.

I often feel like a slave to my bad habits because they are so easy.

However, this can make sticking to a wellness routine really uncomfortable. The new activities you are doing are alien and your brain can panic. The unknown is scary and potentially dangerous.

Making what you find pleasurable, absolutely irresistible.

This is where prioritising becomes important. Improving your wellness is your goal and is the future pleasure you are heading towards. This greatly outweighs the bad habits that you indulge in.

It can feel very uncomfortable at first. However, when you are committed to your wellness routine, it will become easier.

I suggest reading Tony Robbins’ Awaken the Giant Within. He talks about leverage and how you can completely change your life. I’m rereading this right now so that I can start implementing it fully.

Schedule rest time

It can be easy to include a lot in your wellness routine and be overwhelmed. To avoid this, schedule in rest days.

You don’t always need to be on the go and can relax and recharge.

A wellness routine is not there to wear you out. That would not be beneficial for your wellness. However, you can still feel overloaded trying to reach your goals.

Rest days can give your mind a break. Allowing your body to repair. As well as, promoting your emotional being to recover.

Rest time and self-care can also be part of your wellness routine on a weekly basis. Helping you stay committed to your wellness and enjoy the process too.

Additionally, when rest days are scheduled they then can’t get out of hand. The comfort you might feel from a rest day might lead to more and more rest days. Not good for the wellness routine.

So, creating a schedule is really important in sticking to a wellness routine.

Put these Tips into action

I hope that I’ve inspired you to create a successful wellness routine and stick to it. It is not an easy road to take by any means. You might fall of the wagon but you can get back on easily.

Using the most important tips of changing your mindset and accountability to easily commit to a wellness routine. Start by setting your goals to motivate and focus you throughout your wellness routine.
