We’ve recently begun exploring the UK in our campervan, Orlando. Opening my eyes up to the possibilities that exist here. There are a lot of travel restrictions and even anxiety about taking a holiday abroad at the moment.

However, that doesn’t mean you can’t create the holiday you desire, right here in the UK. If you are struggling for staycation ideas, check out these beautiful UK destinations.

1. Cornwall

I think Cornwall might be at the top of many people’s list of amazing UK locations for a staycation.

Boasting of unique coastline, hidden beaches and long coastal walks. Cornwall is a destination for anyone craving the sun, sand and sea. Often popular with surfers, Cornwall has great water sport and activities for all of the family.

Not only that, but this coastal destination also attracts many for the food. Seafood and British produce is a focus for many chefs and Michelin-starred restaurants. Plus, for something more humble, there are the scones and pasties.

To top it off, Cornwall is host to one of the world’s biggest captive tropical rainforests at The Eden Project. Possibly one of the most unique places to visit in the UK, but make sure to book your tickets to avoid being disappointed!

2. Dorset and the Jurassic Coast

Another outstanding coastal destination for a UK staycation is Dorset and Jurassic Coast.

Featuring huge white cliffs, jagged rock formations and a rugged coastline. Known for its fossil beaches, the Jurassic Coast offers lots of things to do for the whole family. Head to fossil beach on the east end of Dorset or Lyme Regis to the west for excellent fossil collecting walks.

Hiking is also a great experience along the coast here. Due to the high cliffs, a hike up the Golden Cap presents endless views of the beautiful countryside and sea. Dorset makes for great adventurous locations for a UK staycation.

3. The Lake District

A smaller area to explore than Cornwall or Dorset but with just as much adventure is the Lake District.

Named after the 16 lakes and rivers that run through rolling hills and home to the tallest mountain in England, Scafell Pike. The Lake District is stunning with plenty of country roads to explore on a road trip or camping by a lake.

Head to Windemere lake for boat trips, canoeing or kayaking or head into Windemere town of Kendall for some food and souvenirs. Hiking to Aira force, the most famous waterfall in the Lake District, for more unique experiences.

This small area has so much to offer and explore meaning your UK staycation will be extra special. Tailor your trip to what you enjoy and the most out of the Lake District.

4. The Peak District

Not too far from the Lake District is the Peak District.

It’s not too far and it also offers similar adventures as the Lake District. With some of the most beautiful and scenic hikes and bike routes that England has to offer. The Peak District’s most unique place to visit is the caves and the cable cars that travel high above the Derwent Valley.

In addition, there are some spectacular historic houses and estates such as Chatsworth House and Lyme Park. Offering a massive variety of activities and unique places to visit and locations for a UK staycation.

5. The Cotswolds

Not just one place to visit but an area spanning across 5 counties, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Worcestershire. The Cotswolds has plenty to see and do!

Famous for its quiet and dainty cottage filled villages, the Cotswolds is an extremely popular destination for a UK staycation. Walk the Cotswold way with over 100 miles of scenic routes from Bath to Chipping Campden. If you can’t hack the whole hike, there are many shorter trails to explore.

Experience a magical nature adventure at the Batsford Arbetorium, full of rare and beautiful trees. Alternatively, have a more homely and cozy experience in the tiny towns like Kingham and immerse in history at the Roman baths in Bath.

The Cotswold are an extraordinary area to explore in the UK. Full of history and hundreds of gardens, estates and castles like Croome park and Warwicarwik Castle. With so many options, the Cotswolds can be a great place to visit for a UK staycation.

6. Scottish Highlands

A list of locations for a UK staycation would not be complete without mentioning the outstanding Scottish Highlands.

Scotland is one of the only destinations in the UK that allow wild camping. If you are after some crazy adventure experience, hiking and sleeping under the stars, then look no further.

Climb the UK’s highest peak, Ben Nevis and rest your eyes on endless hills, mountains and ultimate space. The highlands also offer miles of interesting coastline and islands with amazing wildlife you might not see elsewhere in the UK.

Another great and popular way to experience the highlands is a road trip! Due to its remoteness, finding places to stay whilst trying to see as much as possible can be difficult. Why not hire a motorhome and travel the full Scotland 500 route, circling the whole country.

7. Dover

Kent doesn’t have the most romantic coastline like Cornwall and Dorset. However, Dover offers breathtaking views and formidable rocky structures.

Famous for its white chalk cliffs, Dover has spectacular views of the ocean from the top of the cliffs. South Foreland Lighthouse echoes the beauty of the white cliffs set on top of the grassy cliff above St. Margarets bay.

As well as the beautiful coast, visiting Dover castle and Fan Bay Deep Shelter World War II artillery tunnels offer a great historic experience. Somewhat understated, Dover is the perfect location for a short UK staycation.

8. Snowdonia National Park

Another mountain hike to add to list is Snowdonia in Wales.

Stunning views from all peaks in the National Park, but the easiest way to see them are from the Snowdonia railway. Straight to the top of the mountain on a revolutionary steam train for its time. This can be a great solution for young families when hiking can’t hold the attention of children.

Climbing Snowdonia is a big goal for many, but this is not all that Snowdonia has to offer. Attracting some thrill-seekers to Zip World with the fastest zip line in the world over the slate quarries. As well as trampolines in caves! It sounds like a crazy fun ride.

Ultimately, Snowdonia National park is definitely an adventure and thrill-packed staycation.
